It’s All About my Major/Career: Information for Students
Project Overview:
In this project, you will explore your future academic major or career field by conducting research and reporting on your research in multiple genres.
Major Project Assignments:
Interview a professional in your academic major or career field (Interviewing current undergraduate students is not acceptable. Interviewing family members is acceptable, but highly discouraged).
Write a report about this person’s academic major or career, his/her workplace responsibilities and communication practices.
Write three (3) genres related to your major/career field.
Students will engage in the following course goals:
Developing dexterity with writing processes of prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing.
Preparing you to be an active member of a writing community by both giving and receiving commentary on work from others in the class (including the instructor).
Learning to identify, analyze, and produce various genres of academic and non-academic writing.
Engaging in appropriate uses of technology to research topics, draft papers, and publish final projects.
Developing flexible research skills for composing print and non-print projects.
Learning to self-assess and improve writing conventions.
Due Dates:
Mon 3/14: Revised introduction & background sections of report due
Wed 3/16: Research findings section of report due
Mon 3/21: Completed report draft & Multigenre proposal due
Wed 3/23: Genre 1 due
Mon 3/28: Genre 2 due
Wed 3/30: Genre 3 due
Mon 4/4 OR Wed 4/6: Meet with peer review group. Send Erinn update on your peer review group meeting.
